Somos en escrito Literary Foundation Press is now live!
We are pleased to announce the launch of our independent publishing house, Somos en escrito Literary Foundation Press, with publication of a ground-breaking book, Insurgent Aztlán The Liberating Power of Cultural Resistance, by Ernesto Todd Mireles, Ph.D, a professor of Chicano Studies and Organizing at Prescott College, Prescott, Arizona. S.E.L.F. Press seeks to publish works relevant to the Mexican American and Latino community, that enable our writers to speak in their own voice and which represent the broad experience of the indigenous-hispanic community in the U.S. Our fiction, poetry, and non-fiction writings will portray who we are and how we see ourselves not how others in society wish to portray us.
We are proud to have Insurgent Aztlán as our first publication. Prof. Mireles reconstructs the relationship between social political insurgent theory and Xicano literature, film and myth. Based on decades of organizing experience and scholarly review of the writings of recognized observers and leaders of the process of national liberation movements, the author shares a remarkable work of scholarship that incorporates not only the essence of earlier resistance writing, but provides a new paradigm of liberation guidelines for the particular situation of Mexican Americans.
Insurgent Aztlán informs the present and lays a course for Xicanos/Mexican Americans for the next 50 years by educating ourselves and promoting indigenous-hispanic literature through the authors you will find in Somos en escrito Magazine and from the S.E.L.F. Press publications to come.
