A Creative Non-fiction Anthology of Native and Latina/o/x voices featuring, in part: Carmen Baca, Ernest Hogan, Maria Nieto, Carlota Caulfield, Roberto Haro, and Rosa Martha Villarreal
Somos en escrito Literary Foundation Press, an extension of Somos en escrito literary magazine, was founded to be a welcoming venue for American writers of indigenous-hispanic origin (Indigenous and/or Latina/o/x) to share their authentic stories, advance Chicano and Latino literature, and establish literatura latina as very much a part of U.S. American literature. Continually, our authentic voices have been muzzled and our complex narratives stolen from us and made into a derogatory tableau of how the dominant society, through its publishing houses and mass media, prefers for us to be portrayed. We say, Basta! Enough! to the perversion of our culture, our history and our contributions to the U.S. that the mass media peddle and profit from.
THE CALL Nuestra Realidad Creativa will be a collection of authentic stories that explore our creative reality. We are accepting creative nonfiction: memoirs, historical narratives, and journalistic reporting. The topic is open, but we are interested in work that address the expropriation of our culture, our lack of an assertive voice in all areas of social interaction, our grounding in indigenous origins and traditions, our literature and the fine and plastic arts, and the role of education in preserving and enhancing our culture and history.
Deadline for the submission of manuscripts is November 15, 2020. Finalists will be announced by March 15, 2021. Submit manuscripts as an attachment to email@example.com. Please cite "Realidad Submission" in the Subject box and include an author photo (jpeg) with a bio of no more than 120 words (e.g., state ethnicity, place of birth, previous publications, and current city of residence). Manuscripts should be prepared in Word format, 12 point Times New Roman, double-spaced, and can be written primarily either in English or Spanish. Recommended length is generally from 3,500 to 5,000 words. If you have questions, please email us at: firstname.lastname@example.org.
This is an open call to writers living in the U.S. who have Indigenous American, Mexican American, Puerto Rican, Cuban, Dominican, and Central and South American origin, born or resident in the U.S.
